The designer

Bibi Seck

Founder of Birsel+Seck, a design studio based in New York, and founder of Dakar Next, a design laboratory, Bibi Seck began his career as a designer for Renault. Originally from Senegal, he works to develop good design practices in West Africa, demonstrating the value of design as an economic resource in developing countries. In 2020, with his friend and partner Oumar Sow, he founded the Quatorzerohuit studio, a gallery dedicated to contemporary art and design.

I believe that one of the primary missions of creative people in Africa is to act in favor of the environment by using innovative solutions and transforming our waste. For the Galerie du 19M Dakar, I designed a collection of furniture whose main material is recycled plastic, and in view of its success, I teamed up with Waste&Hope to have it published. I’m convinced that the development of Africa will not happen without the promotion of craftsmanship through design.
